Slow or poor performance in AutoCAD

Consequence:

The response time of AutoCAD is sluggish, showing one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Commands run slowly or hang after executed.
  • Object selection lag.
  • Mouse movements are slow, hang, skip, or hesitate.
  • The programme intermittently pauses or freezes.
  • Cartoon files are slow to open.
  • Files have a long time to regenerate during drawing navigation.
  • Turning on hardware acceleration degrades operation.
  • Degraded performance over time.
  • Dialogs (like plot dialog) are getting opened very slowly.

Causes:

Slow performance is oftentimes acquired by hardware or file problems:

Hardware issues

  • A graphics menu is not certified or is malfunctioning.

  • The graphics card driver is outdated.
  • Graphics settings may not be compatible with a remote arrangement.
  • Dual graphics systems not using or utilizing higher end graphics card.
  • Network issues.
  • Disconnected network drives
  • File is stored in an unsupported working location or in a binder that is syncing to one.
  • Monitors chained together via USB connection.
  • Overheating.
  • Non-specific issues caused by docking stations (when using laptop computers)
  • Computer specifications do not run into the criteria outlined in the System Requirements for the version of AutoCAD in utilise. This includes corporeality of RAM, type of graphics carte (GPU), and the central processing unit (CPU) in the machine.
  • 100% disk usage in Task Manager

Network event

  • Disconnected or slow network
  • Unresolved network drive

Try the following solutions in order, testing AutoCAD each time. If 1 solution does not meliorate performance, go on to the side by side strategy:


General troubleshooting

  • Install the latest AutoCAD update (run into Install Updates, Add-ons, and Enhancements).

  • Disable Offline Files (see How to Enable or Disable Offline Files in Windows).
  • Disable or uninstall antivirus software. If this improves performance, add together exceptions to the antivirus program (see How to fix antivirus (AV) exclusions to meliorate stability and performance of Autodesk software).
  • Perform a clean reinstall of the software per:  Clean uninstall of AutoCAD or verticals
  • Remove any add-ins, plug-ins, or 3rd party software installed into AutoCAD.


Hardware troubleshooting

  • Check the System Requirements page for your version of AutoCAD and brand sure that all of the computer's various components meet or exceed them. If not, performance bug may be expected in AutoCAD.
  • If using a wireless peripheral device, such as a mouse or keyboard, check the bombardment accuse level of the device. Install a new battery.

  • In AutoCAD, use theGRAPHICSCONFIG control to:
    • Turn off "High Quality Geometry" and/or "Smooth Line Display."
    • Turn off hardware dispatch. Some systems may work better with this setting turned off.
  • Movement the file, and all associated files (xrefs, plot file, cake references), to the local drive, or turn off cloud-bulldoze-sync for folders already on the local drive.
  • Ensure the system is not overheating.
  • If laptops are used with docking stations, effort disconnecting completely from the docking station and so examination the performance of AutoCAD again.

Network troubleshooting

  • Check network stability and performance of the network.
  • Disconnect unresolved network drives.

  • If possible, connect to network drives using an ethernet cord instead of using a WiFi.

File troubleshooting

  • Repair respectively clean the drawing or its external references (see How to repair corrupt AutoCAD files).
